Since I began working in strata title I’ve heard the lament that strata managers are under-appreciated, underpaid and unloved.

It was said and heard when there wasn’t any licensing, when there wasn’t a strata industry association, when specialist strata management businesses developed, when trust account controls began, when the strata laws became more complex, when licensing  and registration was introduced, when professional development become mandatory, when larger nationals strata management businesses appeared, when strata owner groups formed, when a strata commissioner was appointed in some states, and, on and on and on.

That’s over 45 years and it’s still being said now.

For instance, in this recent article by @MichaelKleinschmidt from Bugden Allen Graham Lawyers Strata Managers are undervalued and underpaid where he ponders why that is and what to do about.  You can read it here.

And, I see the same thing said regularly in posts and comments in the Strata Linkedin ecosystem.

It seems odd to me that no one has any real answers after all those strata managers have worked with all those strata buildings after all that time.

Maybe Michael is right that as a result of the 2024 Strata Insurance Crisis the strata sector ‘is at a turning point’ and it’s time to discuss, debate and explore the strata manager value dilemma?

So, I’ll be circulating commentary [including my own] going forwards about the value of strata managers and invite all strata citizens to join the debate.

Watch this space. And, send your thoughts to me at francesco@gostrata.com.au.
